Kountoura: Tourism Boom Good for Greek SMEs

Elena Kountoura, minister, tourism, Greece, recently highlighted how Greece’s tourism boom benefits the country’s small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs).

Addressing the board of Athens Chamber of Tradesmen, Kountoura said the opportunities for development arriving from an increase in tourism in Greece would significantly benefit professionals in all production sectors.

She said national and district tourism policies had seen a 25 percent increase in incoming tourism over 2015 – 2017 and a dynamic start to this year with a double digit increase in arrivals, income, hotel profits and a strengthening of work for other production sectors, in turn creating a rise in employment.

Athens in particular, the minister said, is amongst the main players for tourism development, enjoying an ongoing record for arrivals, overnight stays and hotel capacity.
