The EUR3 million investment is Lefkara’s biggest project and is co-financed by the European Union Structural & Investment Funds, the Ministry of Interior and Lefkara Municipality. It comprises a main hall with a seating capacity of 450, and several, smaller meeting and event rooms – all fully-equipped with the latest audio-visual technology, as well as facilities for translating and broadcasting events. The development has also boosted the village’s parking capacity.
Sofoklis Sofokleous, mayor, Lefkara, said that the vision of the conference centre has been years in the making and it is with great joy that it has become a reality, “The new centre will benefit Lefkara itself, as well as its neighbouring communities by boosting year-round event tourism to mountainous Larnaca and strengthening the economy of our rural areas. But the centre does not just belong to Lefkara; It belongs to all of Cyprus and will offer a state-of-the-art facility for events from across the island.”
The petite village is one of the most popular places to visit on the island thanks to the preservation and promotion of its traditional character and local customs – something the mayor says has been further strengthened by the private sector, and in particular, the development of quality, agrotouristic accommodation.
