August had the highest volume of tourist arrivals ever recorded in Cyprus during the specific month.
For the period of January – August arrivals of tourists totalled 2,735,839 compared to 2,719,622 in the corresponding period of 2018, recording an increase of 0,6 percent and outnumbering the total arrivals ever recorded in Cyprus during the first eight months of the year.
Tourist arrivals from the UK increased by 1,0 percent in August compared to August 2018 while an increase of 1,8 percent was recorded for tourists from Russia and 23,6 percent from Israel.
A decrease of 0,2 percent in tourist arrivals from Sweden and 14,2 percent from Germany were recorded.
The UK constitutes the main source of tourism for Cyprus for August, with a proportion of 33,6 percent while arrivals from Russia comprise 20,9 percent of total arrivals, from Israel 9,4 percent and from Sweden 3,7 percent.
For 88,1 percent of tourists, the purpose of their trip in August was holidays, for 10,2 percent to visit friends and relatives and for 1,7 percent was for business reasons.
