More UK Residents Holidaying Abroad – ABTA

The latest figures for travel published by the UK’s Office for National Statistics reported 72.8 million visits abroad by UK residents in 2017, an increase of three percent when compared with 2016.

Reflecting on the numbers, Mark Tanzer, chief executive, Association of British Travel Agents (ABTA), noted that industry figures for this summer were also encouraging.

He noted bookings for both package holidays and accommodation were up six percent on this time in 2017.

Noting the figures had been consistent throughout the year as many people chose to book their holidays in advance, Tanzer also suggested a trend seeing an increase in bookings to Turkey, Egypt and Tunisia would continue into 2019.

He added overall figures to date were encouraging suggesting people still want and continue to travel and that holidays are a spending priority.
